I've had several experts examine this piece and could not get a consensus as to whether it was antique or not. I wish I knew who made it, because I'd surely commission them to make a bunch of them. But, if it's new or old, it doesn't matter. The beauty is timeless. As a note: Heart shapes are very difficult to cut because it causes a lot of waste. If the emerald weighs seven carats now, it might have weighed two or three times that before they fashioned it into a heart shape. They're usually frightfully expensive and rarely appear on the market, except at Neiman Marcus, Tiffany's, or Van Cleef & Arpels. This is surely a piece of jewelry that your lady will want to wear over and over and over again. An emerald green silk dress or suit would certainly be complementary. It's a piece of jewelry that you won't be seeing again very often.
